PROJECT

A New Digital Home for TriWood School

SUMMERY

I focused on creating a seamless and visually engaging user experience that reflects the school’s commitment to carpentry excellence, while delivering a modern, responsive website that meets the needs of the school's community and enhances its online visibility.

In a recent project, I had the privilege of designing a website for a prestigious carpentry school. My goal was to create a digital space that not only showcases the school's commitment to craftsmanship and excellence but also provides an intuitive and engaging user experience.

I focused on the user interface (UI) components to ensure the website is both professional and visually appealing. This case study outlines the holistic approach I took to bring this project to fruition, highlighting my methodologies, design choices, and the outcomes achieved.

Introduction

Understanding the User

The first step in my process was to understand the target audience prospective and current students, faculties, and carpentry enthusiasts. I identified key needs such as easy navigation, quick access to course information, and a platform that reflects the hands-on nature of carpentry.

Research and Insights

The design for this project centered around simplicity, functionality, and aesthetics. I aimed to create a clean and modern look that speaks to the professionalism of the school while ensuring the user interface is straightforward and user-friendly.

  • Intuitive Navigation: A streamlined menu and clear categorization allow users to easily find information about courses, admissions, and the school's history.
  • Interactive Course Catalog: An engaging and informative course catalog that provides detailed descriptions, prerequisites, and material requirements.
  • Visual Storytelling: High-quality images and videos showcasing student projects, workshops, and facilities to visually engage users and highlight the school's offerings.
  • Responsive Design: Ensuring the website is fully responsive, providing an optimal viewing experience across all devices, from desktops to mobile phones.
  • Accessibility: Implementing best practices in accessibility to ensure the website is usable by everyone, including people with disabilities.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the main challenges was organizing the amount of information in a way that is not overwhelming to the user. To address this, I employed a card-based design for courses and workshops, allowing for easy scanning and comparison.

The redesigned website has been well-received by the carpentry school tutors, with positive feedback on its usability and aesthetic appeal. Analytics show an increase in user engagement, longer visit durations, and a high click-through rate for course registrations comparing to their statistics before the website's presence.

Outcome and Impact

Conclusion

This project was an excellent opportunity to create a meaningful and impactful digital experience. It reinforced the importance of a user-centered design approach and the need for continuous iteration based on user feedback.

This project required holistic approach to UX/UI design, focusing on user needs, business goals, and technological capabilities. By blending aesthetics with functionality, I delivered a solution that not only looks professional but also enhances the user's journey through the site.
